More than a dozen people have been killed and several others injured outside Bangladesh capital city Dhaka on Saturday after a boiler exploded resulting with a fire at a packaging factory.
Police official said 19 people were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where three succumbed to burn injuries.
Loval TV news channels estimate about half ton people were injured in the incident and nine bodies are reported to be in the mortuary unidentified. Officials are waiting for family members to identify the dead bodies.
According to fire official Mohammed Rafiquzzaman the upper three floors of the Tampaco Foils Ltd. factory out of five floors in the Tongi industrial area outside Dhaka were damaged due to huge impact of the explosion.
The country is currently preparing for a weeklong holiday for Eid al-Adha festival on Tuesday.
In 2012 more than a ton people were killed in a fire incident at a garment factory in the country. In 2013 more than a thousand were killed when five garment factories and offices collapsed.
The accidents prompted global brands as well as the United Nations to help improve safety standards in factories of Bangladesh.
