A warning from founder of Have I Been Pwned website has come to subscribers that more than 700 million email addresses have been leaked online and this is one of the largest data breaches ever.
Troy Hunt wrote in his blog post the data was available as the spammers failed to secure those in one of the servers and it lead to the download access for any visitor without the requirement of any credentials.
The Australian computer security expert added even though many passwords have been leaded along with the email addresses, but those appears not to be linked to real accounts. Some of the emails are incorrectly scrapped and simply guessed by adding words like “sales” for “email@example.com.”
Today, another leak has come to notice. Video games reseller CEX notified its customers that about 2 million accounts have been leaked and those include names in full, house or office addresses, email addresses and phone numbers as well.
CEX writes in some of the leaks the card information too has been compromised.
The company wrote in a press statement, “We take the protection of customer data extremely seriously and have always had a robust security programme in place which we continually reviewed and updated to meet the latest online threats.”
